Web Publishing Danger #467: not having enough time to deliberate and create accurate, un-slanted headlines. The above front-page teaser(s) both pointed to the same fairly balanced article about whether adoption of same-sex-marriage bans will harm states economically, with evidence on both sides. But you wouldn’t get that impression from the initial online headline, the one on the left, posted before more thoughtful thoughts prevailed and the one on the right was substituted. Yes, these things happen all the time, and not just on the New York Times site. But I don’t know, this one just made me laugh.
